Heath Putnam Farms was formed to produce pork equal to Europe's best.
To this end, we imported a herd of Mangalitsa, one of Europe's best tasting breeds.
We also imported their techniques of raising the pigs, killing them and Austrian seam butchery (large PDF) experts to the USA, to train our processor, allowing us to produce unique cuts (large PDF) from our unique pigs.
We were the first to import Mangalitsa pigs to the Western Hemisphere.
In January 2012, we sold our livestock and brands to Mosefund. We are still selling our remaining meat inventory.
The rapid, enthusiastic and growing embracement of Mangalitsa by quality-sensitive Americans demonstrates its exceptional appeal.
People buy Mangalitsa because it tastes wonderful. Properly raised Mangalitsa has incomparably juicy and flavorful meat and fat.

We pay our producers higher than market rates to raise our pigs. This allows them to continue farming. Many of our producers had stopped raising pigs entirely, despite having decades of experience and substantial investments in their pig operations.
Buying Mangalitsa also helps to conserve the Mangalitsa breed, a breed that is fundamentally different from almost all pigs raised in America.
Heath Putnam Farms is owned by Heath Putnam.
Before founding Heath Putnam Farms, Heath lived for several years in Middle Europe working in financial engineering. He has travelled extensively throughout the region.
After experiencing Mangalitsa in Europe, Heath decided to bring Mangalitsa to the New World, knowing that many American consumers would find it irresistible.
